Along with that, the annual Schulenburg Festival is held on the first weekend of August and features three fun-filled days of family entertainment. The annual Schulenburg Sausagefest held each spring highlights the rich Czech and German heritage with a sausage cook-off and live polka music. While visiting Schulenburg, not only will you find yourself stopping to get a homemade kolache or some fresh pecans, but you will also find that the Painted Churches are known to be the jewels of this area. Schulenburg also offers a strong spirit of fellowship and its festivals are renowned. Education is a top priority in this community, especially since Schulenburg means “school town” in German. Since then, the population has more than doubled and the town is now surrounded by the many open fields within Fayette County where you can easily spot cattle and wildflowers.īeing the home of the Shorthorns, Schulenburg has a public school system, a Catholic elementary school and a Blinn College campus. Thanks to a railroad depot that was built in 1873, Schulenburg was quickly put on the map.
